Debeka Farm

Tasting Notes: Funky, Sweet & Fruity

We have recently started working with Kamba coffee to source some exciting new Ethiopian coffees and we are very proud to present this particular lot from Israel Degfa’s private farm, Debeka in the Borena Oromia region, in the south of Ethiopia.

As a natural processed coffee we were expecting some wild and interesting flavours and it really doesn’t disappoint.

At it’s lightest roast, it was tea like, delicate and floral but we have gone a little darker towards medium to highlight it’s funky fruity notes and to achieve a more syrupy body.

  • Location

Debeka Farm is in the southern most region of Ethiopia. The Borena zone in Oromia region. To the north sits West Guji zone, and to the South Kenya.

  • Farm

The Debeka coffee farm began back in 2017 when Israel joined Kamba on origin trip to Brazil to explore new and exciting processing methods to bring back to his farms and mills in Ethiopia.

Whilst there, Israel was gifted 2kg of Mundo Novo seeds by Bruna’s friend. This is just the farms second harvest, from those seeds.

  • Processing

This is a traditional natural process or dry process coffee. Cherries with fruit in tact are laid out on raised beds to dry in the sun. This process can take 3-6 weeks normally and involves carefully sorting and turning.
